HIGH COST OF STAGE WORK
CHRISTCHURCH, July 4. “It is sheer robbery! It is one of tho most monstrous things I have ever seen!” v In these words an official of one of the amateur theatrical organisations in Christchurch summed up his views on the burdens imposed on amateur and other like organisations by the award conditions governing the work of scene shifting and other stage work incidental ito performances in the municipal concert hall. “In our case,” lie said, “the hill came to nearly £IOO, although thoro is very little skilled work required.” Ho added that his organisation estimated the cost of stage work in wages at about £6O a week.
