COLOURED LABOUR.
WAGE BOARD IN SOUTH AFRICA
(Australian Press Association.) CAPETOWN, July 2
The Capetown Chamber of Commerce has protested strongly against the enforcement of the Wage Board determinations, which, it is contended, do not take into consideration a hundred thousand coloured people employed in industries, and do not provide for the incapacity of workers to earn the wages, prescribed. The clothing and sweet industries are affected. “In unmistakable terms,” said the president “we will tell the Government that it must keep its hand off nonsheltered industries, or industry will be heading for disaster.” The chamber favoured the fixing of wages by conciliation boards.
