FEILDING NEWS

PLUNKET SOCIETY. (Special to “Standard.”) FEILDING, July 5. The monthly meeting of the committee of the Feeding Plunket Society was held on Tuesday afternoon, Mr A. Sugden presiding; Others present were Mesdames Miles, Fair, Mason, Jenkinson, Stalker, Farmer, Tingey and Miss Shortall. Nurse Armstrong reported 13 new cases for June and that 105 visits had been paid to homes. The attendance of adults at the rooms totalled 170, in addition to which there were 157 infants and 51 older children, a total of 361. Seven birth notices 'were reported and six visits paid to outstations, where fivo new cases were received. The attendance of adults at theso rooms was 25, infants 23, and older children two, making a total of 54. It was decided to hold a fancy dress party in the Drill Hall this month. -• It was also anranged that in future the meetings of the committee will be held on the first Tuesday in each month at 2.30 p.m. at Mrs Sugden’s home. Donations were received with thanks from the following; —Mesdames jWackrill, Le Cren and Enting. £1 Is each; Mesdames J. C. Hare and Seifert. £1 each; and Mrs Hare ss. CIVIC CLUB. The Mayor (Mr E. Fair) the guest and speaker at the Civic Club luncheon on Tuesday when he gave an interesting address on borough affairs. Mn H. Mclntyre occupied the chair. By comparative figures, Mr Fair showed that Feilding was in a good position regarding public indebtedness and rating, while at the same time it enjoyed practically every public utility. The town suffered, however, in that it had no public endowments with revenues which would relieve the rates; but that was no reason why the citizens of Feilding should not be proud of their town. Mr Fair considered- it pleasing that visitors had gone out of thein way to compliment him on the clean and tidy appearance the town and residential .area of the borough always presented. Messrs W. E. Carthew, E. Goodbehere and J. S. Tingey eulogised the work Mr Fair had done in the administration of the borough affairs since he assumed Mayoral duties and wished him every success in his second year of office. MIDGET RUGBY. The fixtures for next Saturday in the local midget competition are as follow' :• —2.3 p.m., Manchester Street B v. Lytton Street B; 3.30 p.m. * Lytton Street A v. Convent; Manchester Street A a bye.
