LONGBURN.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) LONGBUKN, June 15.
At tho meeting of the Church of England comrnitteo held on Monday night it was decided to accept the tender of a Palmerston North firm for tho painting of tho Church Hall. When this work is completed tho building will be in a thoroughly 'sound state of repair and should be serviceable for many years to come. It was also decided to install heaters iy tho church which will greately add to tho comfort of those using the building. Inspectors Adams and Law woro visitors to the school on Tuesday. The football match between College Street and Longburn Schools, which was to have been played on Thursday afternoon, was postponed owing to the unfavourable weather conditions.
A combined mooting of local young ladies and gentiemon was held in the hall recently when it was decided to hold a monster ball early in July. Miss R. Birch and Mr R. Cooksley are the joint secretaries and they have the preliminary arrangements in hand.
Mr and Mrs Cudby and family have left Longburn to take up their residence in Palmerston North. Sirs W. Cooke, who has been confined to her room for some days suffering from a severe attack of influenza, is now convalescent.
Mrs and Miss Lancaster havo disposed of their farm and will shortly bo leaving the Siistrict.
