CASH ON DELIVERY.
SYSTEM DISCUSSED. Per Press Association. INVERCARGILL, June 14. “This is a matter which has been giving business people a good deal of concern,” remarked a member of the Invercargill Chamber of Commerce at the meeting to-day. “The cash on delivery system has increased in New Zealand, but as a business scheme the profit goes only to the shoppers at home.’’ “It is a vital question to the drapers,” said another. “I believe that by this system a person can open a parcel, Jffien refuse to accept it.” The discussion was caused by the receipt of a letter concerning the cash on delivery system, the writer protesting against postmasters throughout the country acting as agents for exporters from centres outside of New Zealand in receiving and delivery on payment of the invoice amount parcels of various articles sent to the order of residents in New Zealand.
It was decided to request the secretary of the Associated Chambers of Commerce to give all information on the subject and that the present position be defined.
