DECLARED “BLACK.”
SMALL HIKURANGI AIINE
DISPUTE AVITH OWNER
AYHANGAREI, Juno 12.
Foote’s mine .at Hikurangi has been idle for about a week, as the result of its having been declared “black” by the local branch of the Miners’ Union. Mr Foote, who has employed twelve men on day wages, proposed that the men put in a price at which they would work the mine on contract. He made the stipulation that one man should not he included in tho party. The man concerned took the matter to the union which decided that his exclusion could not be allowed. As Mr Foote refused to change his attitude, the union has declared the mine “black” until such timo as tho miner objected to is included in the party. The situation was discussed at a meeting on Friday, but no settlement was reached. Air Foote has a contract for the supply of coal to the Ritilway Department, and this is being interfered with by the hold-up.
