Over tho week-end tlie Alanawatu Ato tor Club held a very severe motorcycle tost for the Jarvis Cup. The winner was B. Diamond, who also won the Norton Cup for the best performance by tho rider oi ail English machine.
The route was over the track to Pahiatua, where, lunch was partaken of, and back over the track through Linton and the Kahuterawa Gorge. The outward distance was 42 miles and the return 46 miles. In the Ivaliuterawa Gorge was a greasy and treacherous track with many water courses to ford. Considering the stiffness of tlic test., it is a remarkable tribute to the efficiency of the modern machine tnat out of 41 starters 31, many carrying pillion passengers, finished. Tho prize-winners were as follow:- — B. Diamond (Palmerston North), 3) h.p. (lost 84 points) I.—Jarvis Cup and miniature replica, also Norton Cup for best performance by a rider of an English machine. D. Alouatt (Takapau) 31 h.p. (lost 123 points) 2.—gold medal. W. Hock-on (Bulls). 7 h.p. (lost 130 points.) 3. —silver medal. AV. A. Anderson (Takapau) 31 n.p. (lost 136 points) 4. —silver medal. Next ten to finish were: H. Robson (Burinythorpe), 3-j h.p. lost 140;, AI. Smith (Palmerston North), 31 h.p. lost 155- F. Speirs (Palmerston North), 31 h.p.. lost 168; A. Hancock (Palmerston North), 31 h.p. lost 186; T. Jolley (Feilding), 21 h.p., lost 188; h. Bendall (Palmerston North), 3} h.p. lost 197; E. Collins (Colyton), 25 h.p. lost 211; E. Pink (Palmerston North) , h.p. (Palmerston North), lost 215; D. Paislev (Palmerston North) 31 h.p., lost 222; F. Cordcrv (Palmerstpn North), 31 h.p., lost 225; K. Raton (Palmerston North), 31 h.p. lost 220.
