BULLS BRIDGE
NECESSITY FOR RENEWAL. TRAFFIC TALLIES TAKEN. (Bv Telegraph.—Special to Standard.) WELLINGTON, May 22. The Main Highways Board at its meeting this week received a report indicating that the present Bulls bridge over the Rangitikei River on the main highway between ‘Wellington and Wanganui requires either extensive repairs or renewal. The local authorities who are at present contributing to; wards the cost of the maintenance ot this bridge are taking traffic tallies at the bridge site so that tho question or the allocation of the cost can be dealt with.

PLANATION
The matter of the dosing of the road leading from Sanson to the Bulls bridge, for tho purpose of carrying out tar-sealing operations, concerning which the Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce recently voiced a protest to the Manawatu County Council, was made the subject of brief mention at yesterday’s meeting of tho former body. . The countv council, said the chairman, Mr M. v A. Eliott, now explained that the Highways Board had been responsible for the closing. It was a pity, lie thought, that the council had not made this explanation in the first place, instead of giving the very discourteous reply: “Mind your own business.” However, some very complimentary remarks had been made, about the Chamber for voicing the complaint it had.
