Queen, who refused a box at the Bethnal Grden Cinema, where the local Choral Society, of which Her Majesty is 'patroness, sang the opera “II Pagliacci.” The Queen selected a front seat in the balcony. It was largely a coster audience, and many of them wore the celebrated buttons.

East Enders packed roofs and windows and tumultously cheered Her Majesty’s arrival at, and departure from, the theatre.
