ENGLAND BEATS SOUTH ISLAND. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, March 2. Perfect conditions favoured players in the croquet match to-day between the English team and the South Island representatives. The lawns were in good playing order. Details of tho play are as follow : Miss Steel (England) beat A. G. F. Ross (New Zealand)22s,6 —5, 26—16. Miss J. Retallack (England) beat S. McCullough (New Zealand) 26—-7, 26 —4. Colonel Du Pre (England) beat T. F. Chambers (New Zealand), 26 —13, 0 —26, 26—10, H. J. Williams (New Zealand) beat Sir Francis Wemyss (England), 26—17, 13—26, 26 —14.
