DAMAGE BY FIRE.
BLAIE AT HUNTERVILLE.
Per Press Association. M Alt TON, Feb. 6. Fire early on Sunday morning destroyed the stables of Mr Clarke, earner, of Hunterville and severely damaged a tailor’s shop , owned by Mr W. Hodge and the offices of the harmer’s Distributing Coy. The Haines had a strong hold when discovered. As the buildings .were very old they were as dry as tinder and there was little chance of saving the contents which included two motor cars, motor lorry, motor cycle several gigs and stable equipment the firemen were, however, able to keep the flames in check. Apart from the damage to the premises named, there was no further loss but the loss to Messrs Clarke and Hodge and the Farmers Distributing Co. is considerable. It is eoveied bj insurance. ~ .■ The flames lit up the countiy foi miles around and despite the eai y hour, a crowd gathered. Ihe hre raged for several hours. The total damage is estimated at £3OOO. OUTBREAK IN AUCKLAND. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Feb. 6. A fire in the top floor of the Mining Chambers in Queen Street near midnight on Sunday resulted in hundieds of pounds of damage being done by water to Hugh Wright, Ltd's, drapery stock on the ground floor Although part of the roof collapsed above the Belmont tea rooms on the third stoiey, and the floor was well alight when the brigade arrived, a notable save was extensive damage was done to offices on the second floor. Smoke. and watei also poured into other premises on ground floor, causing damage stocks of Mrs Ansenne, florist, ana Mi •Jamieson, tobacconist.
