GAR AND EXPRESS.
CHARGE AGAINST MOTORIST.
DISMISSED BY MAGISTRATE,
Before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., at the Magistrate’s Court this morning; Ralph Erskine Hewat, a local resident, was charged with having, on November 28, driven a motor car in a manner which, having regard to all circumstances, might have been dangerous to the public. Defendant, who pleaded not guilty, was represented by Mr Coooper. SeniorSergeant O’Grady conducted proceedings on behalf of the police. On oath, Frank Goodrich, a carrier, stated that, at 2.50 p.m. on November 28, he had teen driving his express in the Square. Near the intersection with Main Street West a car driven by defendant had struck the side of his express, can-ying away the two back wheels. Witness had been thrown out, receiving a nasty bump. To Mr Cooper: There had. been misty rain at the time. Constable Turvey, who had been on duty in the Square at the time, deposed that defendant had plenty 'Of room in which to pass Goodrich. The police case concluded, Mr Cooper submitted that there was no evidence of negligent driving. His Worship concurred and dismissed the information.
