HEDGE NOT CUT DOWN.
CHARGE UNDER FIREBLIGHT ACT.
Failure to eradicate hawthorn on property within the Palmerston North fireblight area was alleged against Catherine Wilson at the Magistrate’s Court this morning. Defendant did not appear, but forwarded a letter admitting the correctness of the charge. Mr J. W. Wellan, Government orchard inspector at Palmerston North, told Mr L. J. Stout, S.M., that defendant was the only one out of 160 owhers who had not complied satisfactorily with the notices that had been sent out. Defendant had told him that she would not take out the hedge and she defied anyone to cut it down. A fine of £2 was imposed, with 10s costs.
