DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIPS
Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Jan. 19. The remarkable swimming of the Wellington intermediate champion, W. Cameron, at the St. Claw Club’s carnival should serve to show what may bo expected when the New Zealand national swimming championships commence on Saturday afternoon and night with such stars as D. P. Lindsay (Canterbury), N. Dowsett (Wanganui), W. Cameron (Wellington), V . C. Claridge (Wellington), J. P. Enwright (Auckland), E. C. Heard (Canterbury), L. G. Moorhousc (Canterbury), L. Fairgray (Auckland), J. F* Farrell (Auckland), Misses Ena Stockley (Auckland), K. Miller (Otago), D. Mageo (Auckland), M. Jcpson (Otago), G. Pidgeon (Auckland), and Edna Champion (Auckland) taking part. It is little wonder that records will be smashed. . . In the diving championship some great displays can be looked for, especially on the' part of the present champion, R. Calder, of Otago. -The junior classes will provido very keen and exciting competition, and Saturday’s opening session will reveal the possibilities of the junior division.

The Y.M.C.A. Swimming Club held its first race for the Eyro Cup at the Central School baths last evening. The following were the’results: —First heat: G. McMinn (7sec) 1, K. Robinson (Ssec) 2, S. Wilson (3see) 3. Time, 27 2-ssec. Second boat: G. Young (6sec) 1, C. McMinn (4sec) 2, C. McKenzie (scr) 3. Time, 29sec. Third heat: A. Matthews (lOsec) 1, S. Beverley • (2sec) 2, G. Dawick (osec) 3. Time, 27 4-ssec. Final: K. Robinson (3sec) 1, G. Young (3sec) 2, A. Matthews (7see) 3. Time, 05 2-ssec. “ The next distance of 66J yards will be held on Thursday evening next.
SAILORS’ HEROIC SWIM
AUCKLANDER ONE OF THEM
SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 6. After n thrilling battle for a mile with raging surf, three hardy sailors succeeded in landing near Cape Disappointment a lino that saved the crow of tiro stranded schooner North Bend, bound from Brisbane to San Francisco. Five hours later all the members of tho crew were ashore, J. G. Reborah, who was born in Brisbane, heroically led the trio w'Tio struggled ashore gasping for breath. . . ~ Having drunk a tot of Moonshine liquor, which the life-saving station guards brought to them, they immediately demanded to know If Dempsey had fought Tunney again. They had sailed from Bnsbano on October 10 and were hungry for world news. James Ravens wood, of Auck'and, swam ashore with Reborah. The ship will bo salved.
