AORANGI BRIDGE.

COMMISSION RECOMMENDED. HIGHWAYS BOARD DECISION

A communication from the Public Works Department was received at today’s meeting of the Oroua County Council stating that, ,at last weeks meeting of the Highway Board, it had been decided to recommend to tie Minister of Public Works to apply the provisions of section 191 of the Public Works Act to the Aorangi Bridge. As soon as the Minister’s aproval was to hand, the letter continued, steps would he taken to gizette the necessary notice and the council would receive notice in due course. “They will have to hurry up or we will be the same as the W aitargi bridge at Napier the other day, declared the chairman (Cr. A. Campbell) on the reading of the letter. Cr. McElroy commented that ir much more time was lost the bridge would be re-built piecemeal by repair work, as it was continually requiring attention. _ T , Section 119 of the Public Works Act deals with the appointment of a commission by the Governor-General to allocate the costs of the bridge among the local bodies interested.
