ORPHAN’S DAY.
COAIAIERCIAL TRAVELLERS’ EFFORT.
The commercial travellers who set out on Saturday to give the orphan children of tho town and district a Christmas treat were decidedly successful in their efforts. The arrangements were delayed a little at Foxton. through the entertainment of the Foxton Beach Home children by the Returned Soldiers, but they were released from this about 3.30 p.m. and were then joined with the local children and the return of the 20 cars, with their many passengers, to Palmerston North, took place a little after 5 p.m. the children were then taken through the magic cave at Alessrs Collinson and Cunninghame’s where Father Christmas presented to each child a toy. They were then taken to the Congregational Hall where Air J. Danks, assisted by the ladies’ committee had arranged a tea party. On its completion, Mr ASetoalfe, president of the local association, handed out parcels that were addressed individually, no child being forgotten. He also conveyed to them the thanks of the ladies- committee of All Saints’ Home and in conclusion asked the children for three cheers for their hosts. The cheers, which were lustly given, concluded .a very pleasant function. In speaking to the children he said it gave them great pleasure to see them all enjoying themselves, and he hoped that their efforts that day would remain a memory of the happy time they had spent together. Tile Mayor, who attended the function, thanked the commercial travellers for their efforts.
