ROTARY CLUB.
The weekly meeting of the Rotary Club took place to-day, members and their wives attending the luncheon. Rotarian J. Murray presided and .extended a welcome to the ladies which was carried by acclamation. Mr W. Barber (Foxton) and Major Parkes (London) were visitors welcomed by the club with musical honours.
Major Parkes, who is vice-president of the Kensington (London) Rotary Club, in acknowledging the welcome as an overseas Rotarian, said that he noticed in New Zealand greater ■ enthusiasm in Rotary than they had at Home. One thing was that they lunched in an hotel in London, and he thought the clubs in New Zealand had a variety in their style of luncheon and their programmes that he could take back with him for use in his own club when he returned. Rotarian Murray asked Major Parkes to convey to his club the Palmerston North Club’s greetings. Rotariaus present heartily wished Rotarian and Mrs Murray the best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.
Matters in connection with the Rotary conference early next year were discussed. The conference proceedings open at Palmerston North on Wednesday, February 29th, in the Municipal Hall; in the evening a reception to the visitors will be held; on the Thursday afternoon a garden party, and in the evening a concert in the Opera House. For the Friday Dr. Barnett is arranging a welcome to the visiting Rotarians’ wives. In the evening a cabaret will be held in the A. and P. Hall at the Showground's. On the Saturday, the Wanganui Rotary dub will entertain the visitors on a motor trip. After various sub-committees had reported, the meeting closed with the National Anthem.
