FOUND DEAD.

ELDERLY MAN IN SQUARE.

A man apparently about 65 years of age, believed to be Isaac Fairbrother, a retired farmer, who has been boarding at 142 College Street, was found dead in the Square shortly after nine o’clock this morning sitting on a seat near the railway line.

Alexander William Chapman, a passer-by, thinking the deceased was sleeping in a peculiar position, investigated, finding life seemingly extinct. Mr Chapman reported the matter to the police and when medical examination had revealed that the man was dead the body was removed to the morgue. The deceased left home at about 7.45 this morning after breakfast to go for liis usual walk, being then to all appearance in good health. A son of deceased resides in Palmerston North.
