SUMMER SPORT.
TERRACE END CLUB. SEASON OPENED THIS AFTERNOON. Disappointing weather prevailed this afternoon for <tlie opening of the Terrace End Bowling, Croquet and Tennis Club’s greens for the season but, notwithstanding this, there was a very good attendance of members and representatives of other clubs. In declaring the soason open, the prerfideflit, Mr W. H. Moffatt, extended a cordial welcome to the visitors and new members, assuring the former that, whenever they visited Terraco End, they would be given a game. This season 63 new members had already been enrolled, with tho result that tho club’s membership was considerably in advance of what it was at this time last year. Members of the club were to bo congratulated on the sound financial position that it was in to-day. He trusted that the new members would make themselves at homo right from the start; he knew that the older members would give them whatever assistance they could. The greens were in an excellent state, and for this credit was due to Messrs Wallace and Madden. Members of sister clubs, Mr Moffatt concluded, would always be -welcome on the greens at night-time to take advantage of the electric light. Mrs Moffatt then rolled the first jack on the bowling green, and, after her husband had spoken on the croquet green, wishing members a pleasant season, she set play in motion there. The visitors then took part in friendly play with the home club. Owing to the state of the courts, the tennis section was not able to partake of play.
