BANKRUPT ESTATE.

PALMERSTON NORTH LABOURER A meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of Eric Fred Spiers, labourer, of Palmerston North, which was called for yesterday afternoon, lapsed for want of a quorum, there being present, apart from the D.0.A., bankrupt and his solicitor (Mr Meatyard). Bankrupt, in his sworn statement, set out that he was an unskilled labourer, without a trade or certificated calling. For some years he had been working in construction camps and with the Public Works Department when work was available. It was not until two and a half years ago that he had obtained a position as Boorman at a garage at a weekly salary of £3, plus commission. He acted in this capacity for two years and three months, after which he transferred to another motor firm as a salesman at £3 10s per week. His commission in both situations, bankrupt continued, never amounted to much. He had married about three years ago and had a wife and two children to support. They had never had a home of their own and he had been obliged to pay 10s per week for some years, with a probable increase to 15s per week, Bankrupt had filed his petition in bankruptcy because be was unable to pay the amount of a judgment summons recently issued, the judgment being for tbe balance due on a motor cycle (purchased about 1924) and running expenses. He regretted being unable to make any offer to his creditors, his wages and commissions being only sufficient to keep his wife, children and himself and satisfy the beforementioned order.
