FLORENCE AUSTRAL DELIGHTS. BEECHAM’S BIG SUCCESS. LONDON, Oct. 3. Sir Thomas Beecham most successfully appealed to opera-goers at tire reopening of his campaign to-day, when he conducted the London Symphony Orchestra before a crowded audience at the Albert Hall. Florence Austral, the Australian dramatic soprano, was the leading singer. The Times praises tire numbers by Austral, the Spanish contralto, Marguerite d’Alvarez, and Tom Burke, and John Amadio’s flute accompaniment. The Daily Mail says: .“Florence Austral was in the finest form. What a glorious voice I It was a special pleasure to hear English words so well and truly sung. 41l t Sir Landon Ronald took the Albert Hall Orchestra to the Sunday League concert at the Palladium, the former home of tho London Symphony Orchestra. . . The Times expresses the opinion that the most important number was “Wotan’s Farewell,” sung by Horace Stevens, another Australian, whom the Daily Mail describes as a distinguished and telling singer.
