HOCKEY TEAMS.

RELAY RACES. WON BY RUAHINE. In conjunction with the local centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, the hockey tournament committee staged a relay race for the visiting teams at the Showgrounds this morning. There were ten entries, viz., Wairarapa, Manawatu, Ruahine (two teams), Eastern, Otago, Canterbury, Southland, Bush Union and South Canterbury, necessitating the running of heats. Ruahine A won the first heat, Eastern the second and Canterbury the third. The final was run between these three teams, Ruahine gaining a slight lead on each of the four laps to win by about six yards from Canterbury, who were a yard ahead of Eastern. The winning team was made up as follows:—Misses E. Anderson, N. Foreman, E. Simpson and R. McDowell.
