GOOD START COLLAPSES. BLUNT AND MILLS SHINE. HOME SIDE AGAIN BATTING. (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received September 2, 9.35 a.m. LONDON, Sept. 1. The game, New Zealand versus Kent, was resumed to-day at Canterbury before, an attendance of some 5000. Blunt, who at last came into his own, and Mills, who was less restrained than usual, made things look quite rosy for tho New Zealanders while they were together to-day. They had added 75 before Wright got one past tho Aucklander, who had five fours in his 65. Unfortunately, most of the remaining batsmen failed to follow up the good example set them. Unperturbed by this unexpected collapse, Blunt stayed until he had passed his century. His was a first class innings, which three hours. Of the rest, McGirr alone showed any form. At a critical stage he went for the bowling and hit out merrily, scoring 20 while Blunt was getting three. The lattor, just after reaching the century, played forward to one of Freeman’s tricky slows and was bowled. He had only seven fours in his 103.

Tho innings, which lasted four hours ten minutes, closed at 293, which was much less than the excellent start promised. Kent gave Ames a rest behind the wickets and Hubble, the ex-county wicketkeeper, donned the gloves instead and only allowed four extras. Freeman, a slow bowler, secured five wickets, but at considerable cost. On going in again Kent al6o had a temporary collapse. Bernau and McGirr got rid of the first three men for 21. Woolley, the famous England player, then came to the rescue and, by the tea adjournment had, with Chapman, advanced the total to three for 60. This pair put on 56. After the partnership with Ashdown Knott joined the left hander, Woolley, and they could not bo separated before stumps were drawn..
