COLLISION IN THAMES.

STEAMER SUNK. LONDON, Aug. 31. The steamers Beltana and Torrington were proceeding together down Gravesend Reach, when the former struck and cut in halves a small motorboat which had broken down. Its sole occupant jumped into the river and was rescued by a tug. The Beltana then swung and, as a result, the Torrington was holed and beached in a sinking condition. The Beltana was able to proceed to Australia. —A. and N.Z. cable.
