LADIES' HOCKEY

SPECIAL EXECUTIVE MEETING.

TOURNAMENT AFFAIRS,

To consider matters in connection with the New Zealand ladies’ hockey tournament, a special meeting of the executive of the Ladies’ Hockey Association was held last evening. There were present: Messrs H. D. Milne (in the chair), A. E. Blackbourn, E. Chapman, F. T. Vasey and J. H. McDowell (secretary). The New Zealand Association submitted the draw for the tournament, tho date for the North Island v. South Island match, September 3, arid the form of th© Millie Cup competition. The tournament management committee would consist of tho local nominee, Mr J. H. McDowell, a New Zealand Association nominee, and Mr R. Surgenor, manager of the Southland team. During the tournament the opportunity would be taken to hold a meeting of team managers which should be able to transact much useful business.—Th© letter was received.

Mr Chapman, reporting on the hockey dance to be held on Tuesday, September 6, stated that he would have matters practically finalised by the next meeting of the executive. Mr Blackbourn reported that the traffic authorities had signified their willingness to fall in with the association’s project of running ’buses to the tournament.

The subject of billeting was then broached and considerable disappointment was expressed at the response made to the association’s appeal. No reply, it was stated, had been received from the Chamber of Commerce, from which valuable support had been anticipated, as the tournament will bring at least 400 people to th© town. It was resolved to make a further appeal to the public. Mr Chapman then pointed out that several of th© clubs had not sent in their guarantee money for the tournament expenses. Mr Vasey moved: that defaulting clubs must have their guarantee handed in to the association by the noxt meeting on Monday, the 'motion being carried.
