SUSPECT DETAINED

Received August 16, 1.10 p.m. BRISBANE, Aug. 16.

The police have detained a man in connection with the explosion in the office of the Criminal Investgiation Department.—Press Association.

An explosion at midnight on Saturday wrecked the office of the Criminal Investigation Department in Elizabeth Street. The tremendous force of the explosion strewed the streets in the vicinity with iron and masonry. It is believed that the explosion was the result of an attempt to destroy evidence in a robbery case, upon which detectives had been working for weeks past.
