EXPLOSION AT BRISBANE. MYSTERIOUS OCCURRENCE. NO ONE INJURED. (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyrigut.) BRISBANE, Aug. 14. An explosion at midnight on Saturday wrecked the offico of the Criminal Investigation Department in Elizabeth Street. The tremendous force of the explosion strewed the streets in the vicinity with iron and masonry. No one was injured. The cause of tho explosion is a mystery, but the origin is supposed to have been in a quantity of explosives stored on the premises.—Press Association. CRIMINAL DEPARTMENT. Received August 15, 10.10 a.m. BRISBANE, Aug. 15 It is now believed that the explosion which wrecked the Criminal Investigation Department office in Elizabeth Street, on Saturday night, was tho result of an attempt to destroy evidence in a robbery case, upon which detectives had been working for weeks past. . It is believed that a bomb, or similar explosive, was thrown through the window of tho room where tho stolen goods wero kept. A small fire started, but it was quickly suppressed. No explosives were stored in tno premises. Many records were destroyed, but these wero mostly old and of little value. Windows in the buildings nearby were shattered. The explosion was heard for miles around the city. . Detective Burns, who was sleeping on the premises, was sent to hospital suffering from severe shock. —Press Association.
