TERRACE END RAILWAY STATION
(To the Editor.)
Si r> _As the deviation of the railway is now in full swing, I think it would be an opportune time for the residents of Terrace End and Hokowhitu to get together and form a strong committee so as to get a petition presented to Parliament asking that the present Terrace End station, instead of being shifted two miles from the present site, be removed to the intersection of Albert Street and Main Street, and to impress on the Government the advantage that would be derived and the benefit it would be to the residents. More so would this benefit the largo manufacturing businesses timber merchants and coal depots that are dependent on tho railway. These places must have the help of the railway, or go out of business, and when industries leave a town tho town goes back. The removal of the railway is going to be a big handicap to Terrace End and surrounding districts, and will also reduce the value of the property on account of the distance from the new station. Terrace End has the finest residential area in j Palmerston North; it is very dry and ■its drainage is good. The above suggestion would not cost the Government very much. It would be necessary to raise the line at Terrace End, so as to let the traffic pass underneath at the cemetery and Fitzroy Street.. If. the department were to run six trains a day it would pay them well, as there are quite a number of people who cannot afford to pay 7s 6d to 10s taxi fare every time they want to go to the station. Trusting someone will take this matter up, if not for their own business, Jor the sake of the residents of Terrace End and Hokowliitu. —I am, etC " ALBERT F. W. JACKSON 35 Knowles Street, 12th August,' 19-J.
