GOOD RIDDANCE.
SPORTS WHO TURN PROS. AFTER OLYMPIADS. LONDON, July 30. “There is no prospect of the Olympiad being held in Melbourne in 1932, as it has already been fixed for Los Angeles,” said Mr Harry Barclay, secretary of the Amateur Athletic Association to-day.
“I sympathise with the Australian decision that members of their Olympic teams must guarantee to remain amateurs for a year after the games,” he added. “Australia is such a distance away, and the cost of sending teams is so great, that she is justified in thwarting these temptations. The British authorities would not bother with such precautions, considering that if the men are ungrateful enough to become professionals after receiving all the advantages of amateurism, they are better out of it. “The costs here are much lighter, but even if they were heavier I doubt; if any action would be taken.
