(From Our Own Correspondent.) SHANNON, Juno 15. The ordinary meeting of the Shannon Borough Council was held on Tuesday evening, there being present: The Mayor (Mr it. Butt) and Crs. The Borough foreman reported that 45 yards of metal had been carted to Ballance, Ada and Margaret Streets; also that the grader had been used considerably during the past month. The pipo line and galleries at tho waterworks had been inspected, and the water was scoured. The Borough ranger reported that one horse had been impounded during the past fortnight. The road committee reported that tho work of widening Venn Street would bo carried out shortly and tho cleaning of tho water channels in this street would then receive attention. During tho past fortnight Grand Street had been ripped up and graded to a width of 18 feet, there being sufficient metal to allow of this being done. With careful attention this road would take good form and stand for a long period. It was tho intention of tho corninitteo to concentrate on other borough roads on the same system that had been carried out in Grand Street and when completed a considerable saving should result to the borough, besides safety to traffic. The offer made to tho *ullemploycd to obtain metal from tho creek to a dump at 31s 6d per yard was the means of three men starting work and, up to tho present, close on 200 yards of metal had reen dumped. Two persons have applied for metal where footpaths have been formed by them. The cemetery and reserves committee reported that tho work of improving the cemetery had been commenced. A notice of motion by Cr. Hyde, that the meetings of the council bo held monthly in place of fortnightly, was defeated. Cr. Hyde recommended that the money lying to the credit of tho housing loan bo utilised in the interest of further dwellings, tho matter being referred to tho finance committee to bring down a report. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. Although there is but little interest taken in the local Chamber of Commerce, still thoso who are mainly responsible desorve credit for their elforts, the latest result of which is a letter received from tho Railway Beard in response to tho chamber’s recent request for tho erection of additional railway houses at Shannon. The board states that the question of housing at Shannon has been fully considered and provision lias now boon made in tho housing programme for 1926-1927 for tho erection of four additional houses at the local station.
