MEETING OF COUNCIL. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Kiwitea County Council was held at Kimbolton yesterday, Cr. McLean presiding. Also present were Crs. Shaw, Stack, Brown, Williamson, Younger, Hair, Shannon and Wood. CORRESPONDENCE. From Mr J. Stent, Ohingaiti, applying to have the electric light installed at the council’s house, occupied by him. —Referred to Cr. Brownard, the overseer to report at next meeting. From the Treasury Department advising payment of fines collected during the quarter ended 31st of March, 1927, in the Magistrate’s Court, Feilding, amounting to 10s.—Received. From tho district engineer, Public Works Department, forwarding authorities for expenditure of additional amounts on the Nos. 52 and 53, main highways.—Received.

The northern county oversoer reported, I , inter alia, as follows: —Cheltenham Rid- I i ing ; A section of Cheltenham Cross Road and Sinclair’s and McKay’s Lino have I been trimmed with tho grader and two old I broken culverts on Cheltenham Cross Road I replaced with 18-inch concrete pipes. The I work of renewing tho culvert fronting I Cheltenham llall on Kimbolton Road is I now completed. The section of tho main I highway Iront Cheltenham to Kiwitea Post I ! Ottico lias been repaired with gravel and I j trimmed with the grader. The 56-inch con- I ereto pipes have been placed in position on I Kimbolton Road below Kiwitea Post Office and the filling hue been widened. All other maintenance work has received at- I tendon. Rangiwahia Riding: 30 cubic yurds of screened metal were carted out for pot-holes oil Otamakapu Road from I Martin’s pit, and 29 cubic yards of pit 1 metal and bouldors were used between the 1 pit and tho factory corner, making a total of 68 cubic yards. The big stones have been I picked out and the water-tables cleaned on I McKean’s hill. On Mungoira Road tho I water-tables are being attended to and a quantity of metal will be' carted out for repair work when possible. On a portion of IVliare Road tho water-tables have been I cleaned out and the fern cut back. Pakihikura Riding : 36 cubic yards of screened. I and 120 cubic yards of rough pit metal I were carted out by No. 3 lorry for Ohin-guiti-Pemberton Road between Uinau and Morton’s; this portion will requiro another 200 cubio yards to put it in fair I order. 31 cubic yards were carted out of I tho Olira pit for Sandon Block Road, and it will requiro another 30 cubic yards be- I tween Mangainako Junction and the school. I 10 cubic yards were carted out by a hired I lorry, and 12 yards by the roadman, making a total of 209 cubic yards. Mangarere I Road has been cleaned up and the water- I tables and culverts attended to, and now I a quantity of metal is being put out for I pot-holes and weak places on the metalled I portions. Plautapu Riding: In Upper Ka- I whatau tho usual maintenance work has I beon carried out, and an old wooden cul- I vert just beyond Kew Road replaced with I 150 cement pipes. The rough places, between Cooper’s pit and Potaka Road, are I now being attended to, and a quantity of I pit metal and 6omo fine grit from Potaka bridge were carted out by the roadman for I this portion. In Lower Kawhatau tho big I stones in the roughest places are being taken out and the road picked up. and I will have this top-dressed with fine river metal as soon as possible; the work of widening and cutting back tho points on Sullivan’s hill will take about another week to complete. 200 cubic yards of metal have been carted out by a hired lorry from tho Ruahine pit for this portion. The total quantity of metal nut out for the past month is 231 cubic yards.—Adopted.
