RUGBY CONTROL
MANAWATU DISTRICT COUNCIL. MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETS. The weekly meeting of the manage ment committee of the Manawatu Rugby District Council was helt last evening, Mr A. M. Ongley being in the chair. The twon clerk, Woodville, wrote acknowledging the council’s letter relative to the lease of the recreation ground and advising that the matter would.be dealt with at the next meeting of the council.—Received. St; Patrick’s Club wrote applying for the re-classification and transfer of H. Hoffman, who last season played a few games for Western-Unitecl seniors, to St. Patrick’s junior fifteen.—Agreed to.
The Horowhenua Council wrote stating that the appointment of Mr H. Kidson as referee to control tho Mana-watu-Horowhenua representative match had been cancelled and submitting the names of Messrs E. Bevan, J. Sciascia, A. George and K. Davis for selection.— Left in the hands of the president and secretary to ascertain the reason of the non-acceptance of the appointment by Mr Kidson and, if a satisfactory explanation is forthcoming, to make an appointment. Oroua Sub-Union wrote forwarding the names of F. H. Thomson, J. Cantwell and N. J. Short as referees fitted to control the match, Manawatu B v. Oroua, at Kimbolton on Saturday.— Mr Short was appointed to officiate. Eeilding Club wrote protesting against the late starting of senior matches owing to the protracted nature of the curtain-raisers, with the direct result that matches were concluded in semi-darkness.—Mr Crawford mentioned that the junior matches on the oval on Saturday were played overtime, while Mr Clevely reported that, at Monday evening’s meetuig of referees at Eeilding, an instruction was given to referees to start matches at the appointed hour and to conclude them at 3 o’clock sharp. On the m<K tion of Mr Hatch, seconded by Mf Crawford, it was decided that tho time of concluding curtain-raisers on tho oval be enforced by referees. GENERAL.
The referee of the Western-United v. Eeilding senior match on Saturday reported'that he had ordered Ellis, of the former club, off the field for questioning his decisions. —Mr Hands, the official in question, stated that the attitude he had taken up had been rendered necessary, but he moved that no further action be taken. Seconded by Mr Hatch, the motion was carried. The referee of the third grade match, Eeilding v. Woodville, reported having ordered off N. Stevens and D. Morgan, members of the respective teams, for coming to blows. —Both players were placed on the caution list. Mr R. E. Hatch was appointed manager of the A. representative team to journey to Shannon on Saturday, while Mr E. Clevely was appointed in like capacity to tho B team to journey to Kimbolton.
The secretary reported that only tho Old Boys and Eeilding Old Boys Clubs had forwarded the list of players to whom the members issued by the council had been distributed and he was authorised to write to the other clubs requesting that a reply be expedited. On receipt of the lists, programmes are to be printed and issued to the patrons. Mr Hatch suggested that an endeavour be made to arrange a match with Wellington at Wellington on July 13. —The suggestion is to be forwarded to ths Combined Union for its consideration.
