LATE VISCOUNT.

POOR HEALTH FOR MONTHS. LONDON, May 2. Viscount Cowdray (whose death was reported yesterday) had been in poor health for several months, suffering from heart trouble, but was well enough to have travelled to Aberdeen to receive the freedom of the city, with Lady Cowdray, on Tuesday. It was unique for a husband and wife to be thus honoured simultaneously, but jointly they have given £IOO,OOO to hospitals, the University, and other local objects. The day, .indeed, the very hour, of the intended honour will now be the time of the funeral. Viscount Cowdray died in his sleep, in the midst of a happy houso party, gathered to assist in his honour. —A. and N.Z. cable. Viscount Cowdray was better known as Sir Weetman Pearson. He was made a baronet in 1894, and was honoured with a barony in 1910, becoming the first viscount in 1917. Born in 1856, Viscount Cowdray devoted the greater part of his life to business, though for fifteen years he represented Colchester in Parliament in the Liberal interests. His greatest public work was in connection with the Air Board, of which be, was elected President in 1917.
