HERO OF BUSH
SIXTEEN HOURS OF PAIN. WITH LOG ON LEG. BRISBANE, April 19. . For 16 long, lonely hours, while suffering excruciating pain, a timberi hauler named Joseph Glasby lay pin-l ned to the ground by a log in the! bush at Emu Vale. Glasby was engaged hauling logs with a bullock team. He was loading ! in the afternoon, and at about 4 | o’clock a log rolled on his foot, pin-' ning him down. _ i Glasby’s predicament was a terriblo one. Far from help in a lonely bush, j he recognised that his chances of assistance were meagre. He attempted with a pocket knife to loosen the grip of tho log by removing the earth under his foot, but stones rendered that attempt futile. He tried to cut his boot off, buti again he failed. In addition to the impossibility of being able to extricate | himself Glasby was also keenly aware j of the danger that menaced him from i any movement of the still yoked team j causing another log on the. waggon! to topple on him
