RAILWAY RETURNS

FEILDING STATION. REVENUE STATEMENT. (Special to “Standard.”) FEILDING, May 3. The revenue taken and the quantity of goods and the number of passengers handled at the>Feilding railway station for the year ended March 31, 1926, affords mi interesting comparison with tiro figures of the previous year. Tho growing importance of Feflding as a stock centre is revealed by the increased figures for sheep in both inward and outward shipments, and in this direction it is significant that the figures under the heading of sheep are practically tho only ones that show ah increase, the remainder falling off materially. In the comparison between the revenue and the number of passengers passing through the station during the two years, it will bo remembered that i 925 was somewhat unique so far as the financial year was concerned, and that* was that it contained two Easters, whilst the 1926 period was devoid of any big excursion periods beyond the customary Christmas holidays. Another factor that might have had a_ considerable bearing on tbe falling off in passengpr revenue is that of the Dunedin Exhibition afforded a considerable attraction to the travelling public during 1925. The detailed figures as explained to a “Standard” reporter by tbe stationmaster (Mr S. Stedman) are as follow, those for 1925 being given in parentheses :—: OUTWARD TRAFFIC. Passengers, 32,338 (47,791); season tickets, 242 (296); cattle, 9041 (10.272); sheep and pigs, 163,290) (124,160); timber, 140 tons (235 ton 6); goods, 10,474 tons (10,817 tons). OUTWARD REVENUE. Passengers, £9921 (£13,423); goods, £24,565 (£24,779); parcels, £919 (£1502); miscellaneous, £667 (£.615); total, £36,072 (£40,319), a decrease of £4247. INWARD TRAFFIC. Cattle, 4557 (2993); sheep, 103,393 (99,906); timber, 3295 tons (3333 tons); goods, 25,395 tons (26,219 tons). INWARD REVENUE. Parcels, £4OO (£1455); goods, £34,450 (£35,594); total, £34,850 (£37,049), a decrease of £2199.
