NEW ZEALAND TIMBER.
REPORT OF INQUIRY COMMITTEE.
Per Press Association,
WELLINGTON, April 21
The Minister of Industries and Commerce, Hon. A. ‘D. McLeod, stated today that a sub-oommittee, consisting of representatives of the Valuation, Public Works, Industries and Commerce and Forestry .Departments, which was appointed to inquire into the question of the more-extended use of New Zealand ordinary-building timber by the State Advances, Public Works and other departments, has brought down a report of its findings in the form of several resolutions, which would be considered at the Sawmillers’ Conference to be held in Wellington. The opinion of the committee was that more New Zealand ordinarybuilding timber could be used, provided it was allowed to season thoroughly first, and also on .condition that sawmillers gave an undertaking that they would be responsible in seeing that the timber supplied -was kept up to given standards.
The Minister added that, provided the conditions stated could be complied with, the Government departments affected would be instructed to utilise New Zealand timbers to as great an extent as possible.
