WHEAT QUESTION.
CANTERBURY RESOLUTION.

At a p ivate conference on the wheat question held last night a number of import;u t resolutions in connection with tic problem were carried unanimously Mr LV. Machin, as chairman of tho wheat committee, presided and there were prseent nine prominent millers and n il; farmers representing the Farmers’ Unions of North, South and Mid-Canterbury. The resolutions carried wore as follow :
That it is desirable that some scheme be devised for the purpose of helping the wicat growing industry at the presen 1 time. That ihe basic price to be paid by the mill rs to the wheat growers for Tuscan 1 e 6s f.0.b., this being based on flour at £l7 per" ton, f.0.b., bran at £6 p r ton, f.0.b., and pollard at £8 per ion, f.0.b., less the usual discounts this agreed price for wheat to he varied in accordance with the fluctuations of the prices of flour, bran and nollard.
That gainst this 6s, or whatever price ir. eventually determined by the average prices of flour, bran and pollard between the present time and December 31, 1927, an advance of 5s 3d per bushel be made against all Tuscan wheat purchased and that the settling date for the balance he December 31, 1927, when it is known what has been the averuge price for-the period of the wheat products named. That a committee be set up to deal with the details of the scheme and- to press Oil the Government the necessity for car -y ng out the Prime Minister’s promise to deal with the situation should it be found that a large quantity of Australian flour is being imported or is likely to be imported.
