MECHANICAL HARES.

THEIR USE FOR COURSING. CURIOUS POSITION. SYDNEY, April 8. The last has not been heard of coursing with mechanical hares. When the matter was first introduced the Crown Law authorities advised that, in order to permit such coursing, an amendment to the Gaming and Betting Act would be necessary. They pointed out that coursing with mechanical hares was outside the recognised definition of the word coursing.” This amendment successfully passed the Legislative Assembly, but was rejected by the Legislative Council. > Those interested in the matter have, since the defeat of the amendment, secured legal opinion to the effect that no amendment of the Act is necessary to permit this form of sport. The Crown law authorities are now reconsidering the matter.
