MANAWATU KENNEL CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING. Mr C. H. Whitehead presided over an attendance of 25 members at the annual general meeting of the Manawatu Kennel Club held last evening. ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report, which was read and adopted, stated inter alia that the club had cause for gratification at its present position after the year’s working and, judging by the activity shown by all members, everything augured well for the future. Several vexed questions had been debated during the season with the Manawatu A. and P. Association’s committee and eventually a deputation from the club had waited upon the association with proposals in regard to exhibiting. Full agreement was reached on both sides, it being resoivc-d that the club conduct its own show in conjunction with the local society’s fixture, the A. and P. Association to charge for rental and incidental expenses in connection with the hall. From the club’s point of % r iew this was a success, the report continued, as it showed clearly just how much work was necessary to carry out the various duties ou such an occasion. Unfortunately, members of the A. and P. committee took exception to being charged admission and this was regretted as 50 per cent, of the takings went to the show authorities, leaving no margin of prcfit. for tho Kennel Club. Outside entries were not so large this year as previously from around Wellington and this was regarded, as unsatisfactory in view of the fact that exhibitors from tho Manawatu entered their dogs for outside shows. Mention was made of the ladies’ committee which had helped ! considerably with the success of the fanciers’ show. The trophies presented by the ladies were also acknowledged, it being felt that they would bring about healthy competition. The following recommendations were made to the incoming committee for consideration : (a) That a livelier interest be shown by all members, thus helping to bring the club to the fore; (b) that an annual parade be held ; (c) that, when appointing judges, careful consideration be given to the appointments; (d) that all members when allotted to a committee undertake to do their part in an endeavour to keep the system of organisation up to a high standard, for only by hearty co-opera-tion can a show be successfully managed ; (e) that the New Zealand Kennel Club be asked to show more interest in affiliated club affairs —greater than has been tho case in the past as, judging by the 1926 balance-sheet, laxity has been shown in regard to outstanding fees. In conclusion, the report expressed thanks, on behalf of the club, to all who had. assisted during the past year. The chairman, in referring to the report and balance-sheet, stated that much lrad been accomplished. It was satisfactory to know that they h?d a credit balance and he felt sure that the time was not far distant when the local club’6 show would be the premier fixture of its kind in the Dominion. Mr Whitehead also paid a brief tribute to the work of Mr A. R. Cliffo as secretary and to Mr G. S. Remington as treasurer. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The election of officers .for the ensuing year resulted: Patron, Mr J. A. Nash, M.P.; president, Mr T. F. Conway; vice-presidents, Meedames Thorburn and Nasmith, Miss Thompson and Messrs L. Tlio secretary introduced the question of the administration of the N.Z. Kennel Club, which ha 6 its headquarters in Wellington. This body, he stated, was not supplying adequate information and repeated correspondence did not receive the consideration warranted under the circumstances. Mr Cljffe, continuing, dealt at length with the balance-sheet which, he said, revealed that there were 23 clubs affiliated to the parent body, and the sum of £59 vihis shown as arrears. This state of affairs should not exist.
It was explained that the local club was financial, haviug paid this year’s affiliation fees.
The chairman also spoke in similar terms and, following a brief discussion, lie urged members of the committee to attend the next meeting when the remits for the annual meeting of tho parent body would bo prepared and fully discussed. It was resolved to hold a meeting during the first week in July to decide upon the appointment of judges for the November Show. Tho secretary was instructed to write to Mr and Mrs L. C.
