NEW ZEALAND APPLES.
PHENOMENAL PRICE.
LONDON. April 6. Covent Garden marketers are wondering why New Zealand’s first fruit arrivals are unprecedently ten days ahead of Australian shipments. It is stated that this is due, not only to the lateness of the Australian season, but also to the fact that the New Zealand Fruit Board arranged that the first consignment bo sent by mail-boat, thus affording the growers a definite date for picking and a speedy shipment.
Dealers are marvelling at the phenomenal prioe of New Zealand Cox’s at private sales. West End dealers doubt whether 40s and 60s per case will again*be realised. This price is due to the eagerness of wealthy people to obtain fresh apples. They are tired of stale stored American apples.—A. and N.Z. cable.
