EXTREME POLITENESS.

MR LANG’S LATEST MOVE

GOVERNOR NOT LIKELY TO BE INFLUENCED.

LONDON, Feb. 3. It is authoritatively stated that Mr Lang has not yet communicated with Downing Street requesting the recall of Sir Dudley de Chair. If such a request were made direct to the Secretary for the Dominions (Mr Amery), it is doubtful if he could even acknowledge it, unless the Governor had- first received the communication.

The suggestion that the Governor proposes visiting London has not been confirmed. Apparently there have been cables on the subject, but these are believed to be merely of an informative nature.

Mr Lang’s attitude now seems to be one of extreme politeness, and, whatever his intention, his latest attitude gives the impression that ho is determined at all costs to entreat the Governor to increase the membership of the Legislative Council. It is stated that if Mr Lang is merely using Sir Dudley as a pawn in the game, by which he hopes to strengthen his position at the Labour Conference, he is working on the flimsiest foundation, for it is difficult to see how anyone could prove that the Governor had acted otherwise than in a strictly constitutional manner.
