A. AND P. AFFAIRS
MEETING OF GENERAL COMMITTEE, The monthly meeting of tho general committee of the Manawatu A. and P. Association was held yesterday, Mr Jas. Knight presiding over a very full attendance of members. A welcome was extended by . the chairman to Mr L. Millward, • a new member of the committee. Thanks for courtesies extended to its members while at the last Manawatu Show were extended by the Inangahua A. and P. Association. ' The Borough Council wrote thanking the association for its donation of £25 towards the expenses of the jubilee celebrations. ROYAL SOCIETY’S CONFERENCE. The Royal Agricultural Society advised that its annual conference would be opened on Thursday, May 26. The president, the secretary and Mr M. A. Conway were appointed the association’s delegates. On the suggestion of Mr D. Buchanan, it was decided to obtain the opinion of the conference on what constituted an amateur exhibitor. LIST OF JUDGES.
A request was received from the Royal Agricultural Society for assistance in the revision of the list of judges for A. and P. shows, the writers asking that further competent officials be suggested and addresses corrected where necessary. Tho matter was referred to the schedule committee as was also a suggestion by Mr O. Monrad that the matter of encouraging younger judges be given every consideration. GENERAL. The president and Mr Conway were appointed to represent the association at this year’s conference of the North Island A. and P. Associations. Free space was granted the Plunket Society for a hoop-la stall at the Winter Show. Vice-presidents for the ensuing year were elected as follow:—Messrs J. A. Nash and J. Linklater, M.P.’s, E. Blundell, L. Wall, Sir Douglas McLean and the Mayor of Palmerston North.
As this was the last meeting of the association’s year over which Mr Knight would preside, the opportunity was taken to thank him for the work he had done on behalf of the association, both Messrs Conway and J. M. Johnston paying tribute to the services rendered by Mr Knight. Replying, the retiring president thanked the committee for the assistance it had given him during the year. Credit was due to the members for the work they had put in. Arising out of a suggestion by Mr Johnston, it was decided to make enquiries with a view to holding chopping contests at the Winter Show.
