DEEP-SEA FISHING.
SPORT IN THE NORTH. PRINCE MAY COME NEXT YEAR. [By Telegraph—Special to. Standard.] AUCKLAND, March 2. Up at the Bay of Islands it is asserted in quite a definite way that next season the Prince of Wales will sample the deep sea fishing grounds where his distinguished brother ,last week had the felicity of landing a reremai shark. It was possibly a coincidence that the assertion was made the same day as H.M.S. Renown arrived there that “the Prince of Wales may come.”
This was the first rumour on the Russell waterfront. Perhaps the tense was changed in the telling during the day and “will” was substituted for “may.”
should the Prince of Wales visit tho Bay of Islands next year he would be assured of a royal welcome and the fishing fraternity would be delighted if he should land the biggest fish on record. Incidentally it might be mentioned that an English duke, not a member of the Royal Family, has made inquiries about New Zealand deep sea fishing and hopes to be at Russell next season.
