The wicket was beginning to show signs of wear. Wellington’s second innings realised 323, leaving Auckland 199 to make to win. Lowry’s century was a fine effort. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Jan. 24. The gate takings at the Plunket Shield match indicate that interest in cricket is increasing in Auckland. The receipts for the three davs have been £127 13s, £315 16s 3d, and £l5O 8s 6d, making a total of £623 7s 9d.
NEW ZEALAND TEAM FOR ENGLAND. SELECTION DELAYED. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 24. The selection committee appointed to choose the New Zealand cricket team to tour England lias telegraphed to the management committee of the New Zealand Cricket Council asking that the selection of the first eight men to tour be postponed instead of being made after the present Auck-land-Wellington Plunket Shield match. The management committee has telegraphed the following reply: “The committeo accedes to your request to delay the selection of the first eight, as the Wellington match against the Melbourne Cricket Club does not take place until February 25. Wo do not think that you can delay the final selection later than the AucklandMelbourne match (February 7). This also gives you the Canterbury-Otago match. Wiro selectors’ opinion.”
MELBOURNE TEAM’S VISIT. MELBOURNE, Jan. 24. It is doubtful whether Dakin will be able to make the trip with the Melbourne Club’s team to New Zealand. —Presss Association. M.C.C.
