SIX MILLION MARK PASSED. ALL STATES SHOW INCREASES. SYDNEY, Jan. 3. \n official report shows that the population of the Commonwealth at September 30 last totalled 6.0<6,432 whereof 3,104,821 were males and 2 971,611 females. In Tasmania and Victoria the females predominated. The increase for the year was 118 512. New South Wales increased bv ’ 26,571. Queensland by 21,860, South Australia by 15,807. '1 he other States showed small increases. Since the 1921 census Australia’s population has increased 640,698, whereof 70 per cent, were the excess of births over deaths, and 30 per cent, the excess of arrivals over departures.

The increase represents an average rate of slightly above 2 per cent, per annum. —Press Association.
