BOY AND TWO GIRLS. SHOPLIFTERS ACTIVE. SYDNEY, Dec. 23. Among the alleged shoplifters caught in the police net yesterday was a gang of three —a hoy of six years and two girls, aged 12 and 13 respectively. In other shops three young women were arrested. One of them, it is alleged, had stolen-from 10 different establishments within a few hours. -
With the approach of Christmas, shoplifting has become exceedingly prevalent, and a special force of detectives has been placed on watch. The behaviour of three juveniles in a city store yesterday aronsed the suspicions of an attendant. The two girls, it is alleged, stole handbags and bottles of perfume from the counter, and these were then j handed to their boy companion, who pushed them under his woollen jumper. FOLLOWED FROM SHOP. When he was searched by the police goods worth £3 10s were found. Some of them, it is stated, had been taken from another store. According to Detective Keeble and Cunes, who have recovered other property, evidence will show that the trio were not novices. Chsrges were laid against the two girls at the Children’s Court. The little boy was not detained. A young woman shopping in Pitt street aroused the suspicions of the shop-walker. He followed her to an adjoining shop, where, it is alleged, he saw her put something into her bag. Detectives Arnold, and Truskett searched the bag in which', they say, they found articles which had come from ten different shops. Detectives Keeble and Cunes also arrested a woman who, it is said, was seen to pick up a piece of imitation jewellery in a big. city shop. Several charges were preferred against her. Constables Breen and Caiman took into custody a young woman who was charged with shoplifting from another well-known city firm.
