WHOSE PICTURE?
A SALE PREVENTED. CLAIMANT ARRESTED. LONDON, Dec. 17. Following lier attempt to remove a valuable picture, alleged to be a Romney, from an auction room at Cardiff, the police arrested Mrs Ada Bail, who had previously prevented the sale of the picture by issuing a writ against the owner, Mr E. P. Lawler, ten minutes before the auction was to commence.
Mrs Bail claims the ownership of the picture, which depicts the death of General Wolfe on the Heights of Quebec, during the battle by which the British captured the city, and Cossibly is the famous work which has een missing since 1770.. Mrs Bail stated that she returned a cheque for £lO to a prospective purchaser, who declared that the picture was valueless. Therefore, she considered that it still was her own property.
Mrs Bail’s solicitor expressed the opinio,n that the picture is worth £20,000.
