TOWN v. COUNTRY. DRAWN GAME AT WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, Dec. 20. Play w-as resumed this morning in the Town v. Country cricket match, the Town team continuing its second innings with three wickets down for 163. Kortlang' (75) and McGirr were the batsmen, but the latter did not last long, being well taken by Stephenson eloso in at square leg after scoring two. Hollings came next, and a fruitful partnership ensued. With his score at 171, Kortlang placed one dangerously close to Orr at second slip. Then Hollings, who had played a bright, if somewhat lucky, innings for 59, was bowled by Stephenson. Ho specialised in the hook shot, hitting in all ten fourers, ancj assisting Kortlang to add 160 for the fifth wicket. 330—5—59. Badcock came next, and after scoring 10 he hit hard to square leg and Gallichan brought off a brilliant one-handed catch.James joined Kortlang, who was 179, and 350 came up. Kortlang reached 180 by stepping out and pulling one from Dempster to tho track at mid-on. The luncheon adjournment was taken with the board showing six wickets down for 356, Kortlang being 185 and James 1. During the luncheon adjournment Brice declared the innings closed. Kortlang was at the wickets for close upon four hours, and hit one sixer and 28 fourers in his sterling display. When he opened out after reaching the century he gave an exhilarating display of rapid scoring. Orr and Stephenson opened the Country team’s second innings at 1.50 and set out on their long task of attempting to get 459 to win in four heurs. Badcock and McGirr took np the bowling, and the third ball of McGirr’s first over swung in and skittled Orr’s sticks, j Worker came next, and when the score was 18 rain set in, necessitating a cessation of play. In the Sheffield Shield match against Queensland, Victoria lias seven wickets down for 511 (Woodfull 56, Ponsford 151, Hendry 140, Ryder 37, Rigg 62, King not out 39, Liddicutt 16). The weather was fine and the wicket was good, while the outfield was much drier. AVoodfull added 6 to his over-

night score before he was dismissed. Ponsford and Hendry made the most of the weak bowling, and despite frequent changes and keen fielding, kept the fieldsmen busy. From the Southern Hawke’s Bay Association accepting Boxing Day as the date for a match at Palmerston North.—Received, Mr Kells being appointed manager of the local team. Ongley was appointed to represent tho association at future meetings in connection with the jubilee celebrations of the borough the opinion being expressed that the association should help tho movement. The selector was instructed to choose an eleven to meet a team from the Hutt on December 28 at Palmerston North, Mr Smith being appointed manager. It was reported that the competitions would recommence on January 15. The date of the next meeting was fixed as January 17.
