The publicity given to the high wages paid in the United. States is largely responsible for a big demand in Glasgow and the west of Scotland for emigrant visas to the United States. The United States Consul at Glasgow had in June a waiting list of 22,000 persona who wanted visas, and this number was being added to at the rate of 100 a day. It will take at least two years to wipe out the list. If a proposal of a committee of the Glasgow Corporation to introduce a 2d maximum fare on the Glasgow tramways is carried, passengers will bo able to travel from Paisley to Airdrie, a distanco of about 20 miles, for 2d.
