LOCAL LOANS.
THE PROPOSED BOARD. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, July 25. Members of local bodies in Christchurch are not favourably impressed by the provisions of the Local Government Loans Board. The Mayor (Rev. J. K. Archer), when interviewed on Saturday said tlie view taken by the City Council was that the provision for setting up the board was unnecessary and undesirable. Mr Valter Hill, chairman of the Drainage Board, said if the board is to be on the lines of tlie British Local Government Board there was much to commend it, but only if it eliminated the necessity for a poll of the ratepayers after the board approved of a loan proposal. Mr J. W. Walter, chairman of tlie Tramway Board, said the measure was not required so far as the local bodies wero concerned. Members gave careful consideration to all loan proposals. Mr C. Flavcll, chairman of the Heathcote County Council, said the board was unnecessary. Decisions on the loan proposals might safely be left to the ratepayers who foot the bill.
